Massage Cupping
Student will be introduced to the theory and practical application in which heated cups or vacuum cups are used to create suction to bring blood to the skin’s surface to facilitate the release of toxins through the skin. Massage therapists will be applying oils to the body to allow the cups to slide on the client, thus releasing tension and improving circulation.
Cupping refers to a practice in which glass, plastic or bamboo cups are applied to the skin with negative pressure inside the cup, pulling skin and superficial tissue into the cup. It is a technique used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for certain health conditions, to enhance lymphatic and blood circulation, and to stimulate balance of Chi (Ki) in the meridians, and to treat soft tissue pain and spasm.
Massage cupping is a safe, non-invasive, and inexpensive technique. It enhances all forms of bodywork and can be used to enhance circulation to a body site, stimulate lymphatic drainage, reduce cellulite, alleviate pain, and induce deep relaxation by sedating the nervous system. Application of liniments, analgesic ointments, and essential oils after cupping will enhance the absorption deeply into the tissues. Massage therapists find that massage cupping allows deep tissue work that can be completed without discomfort and stress on the practitioner.
